Do you want to know the latest and greatest? Or chat with other Secret
Guide afficionados? I've decided to create two mailing lists, one for
announcements only (did I ever get fix up my links? What's Russ's new
number?) and one for unmoderated conversation. Archives of both will also
be available, if you want to check them out and see if you want to join.
(You can join, one, both, or of course, none at all)
11/22/98...Moby Disk hooked up my
scanner, and I'm procrastinating a bit of writing I need to do, so I've
decided to scan in bits (including the cover!) of the Guide (finally).
Also, he pointed out I could make my rainbow links clickable, not just the
tiny-enters. (i put the color tag BEFORE the HREF, which doesn't work,
apparently, it would default to blue, or any one color. not the rainbow
effect which Russ's book really deserves.) So, I know that the 25th is on
its way, and I'm finally getting together on the 24th, make of it what you
Update 11/11/98...the update is, on my end, there is no update. I
haven'tdone anything new yet. I had many noble plans , but
they're still unrealized. However, Russ is sending the 25th edition to
the printer this week (call now to order your copy!), and will mention
this page. I still can't guarantee I'll do the indexing/linking I've
planned anytime soon, but I can still dream, and I can still leave this
link accessible, with the complete text.
7/17/98...GODS, i'm behind, on ALL parts of my page. I finally
got the 24th in (Russ had problems with my order, i forgot to specify my
disk type), and just have generally barely worked on my pages in ages
anyway. the table of contents liks point to NOTHING right now, i killed
them to spur me to get #24 up here. sorry.
7/19/98...ok, the stuff's converted to HTM, and about half
uploaded, but my table of contents isn't pretty yet, and therefore
not uploaded, therefore the rest just doesn't quite exist either.
sometime this week? sorry.
check out the MCSE page I did this AM while
you're waiting. here's one link that works now, go
Order your own print copy of the book!
7/21/98...ok, i've got an ok icon for now for the ToC, will get resize it
better soon. (well, have Arthur do it
for me, since I depend on him for most graphic works. He did this banner
for me, which I use for link exchange: . Let me tell you some of the
plans for this page, so you know what to expect, O faithful (and probably
suggestions? questions? Email
- get my scanner working.
- More mundanely: I hinted above, yeah, a link echange banner on each
page. Sorry, gotta get exposure somehow, I've got this ego which needs
constant tending (Do your share,
email me now!
- Another mundane bit, little bitty arrows at the bottom of each file,
so you can read it striaght through, just like a book, without going to
the table of contents each time you finish reading a file
- Russ seemed to have used the tab key and lots of spaces to create his
"charts" and "tables" througvhout the book instead of using Word's tabling
function. So my save-as didn't convert those areas very well. Don't
worry, i'll make them line up, either with "pre" tags or real tables, as I
- take the book's index, and anchor it throughout, so you can use it
like a real index. right now it, just like the rest of all this, is
merely Word converted to HTML, which is really useless since page numbers
have lost meaning.
- take the glossary, and add pop-up video, i mean pop-up definitions,
maybe i'll indulge in a touch of java script here, so they fluctuate
colors with mouseovers, instead of looking like regular links.
- and to really take advantage of being online, of course, link this
like crazy all over the rest of the world (well, as much of it as Yahoo
and Infoseek show me), as applicable. One vow, within a section, I will
not repeat a link. OK, so I run the risk of more dead links. But I also
could reward y'all with many cool links. In another browser window, don't
want you to lose your place here, methinks. But we can have official
links on the history of Amiga, say, and some amiga emulator sites, and
game-cheat info, etc.etc.
- Whatever else y'all can think of!
